10 Wild Ideas For The Hulk In Phase 5

2. The Immortal Hulk

World War Hulk
Marvel Comics

Long, long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Incredible Hulk was a deaf bodybuilder in green paint and a fright wig.

The 1978 TV show The Incredible Hulk saw ‘David Banner’ on the run across the length and breadth of America, unable to control his frightening alter ego and trying his best to help people along the way. The series ran for five years: for a certain generation, Lou Ferrigno is still the Incredible Hulk.

Now, in recent Marvel Comics continuity, Bruce Banner made Hawkeye promise to euthanise him should it his ‘Hulk problem’ get out of control again. Unfortunately, now Banner has a new Hulk problem: he can’t die, and the creature inside of him has never been more demonic. The Devil Hulk is as smart as Banner, a menacing green terror that comes out after dark, hell bent on protecting the weak by utterly destroying anything that might prey on them.

The Immortal Hulk TV series, then, would be a Disney+ offering for the tail end of Phase 5: a horrific spin on the road-trip-around-America premise of the original Incredible Hulk show, the littlest Hobo by way of Hellraiser.

Bruce Banner has lost control again, lost the plot and finally lost his life, but he won’t stay dead and buried. He’s brought something terrifying back with him, a Hulk no one’s seen before - and back on the run, hiding from friend and foe alike, he’s about to discover what madness lies on the back roads of America when the sun goes down...
