1. Norman Bates
"If you love somebody, you wouldn't leave them even if they treat you badly. Do you understand? I don't hate my mother. I hate at what she's become. I hate her illness." Long before all the other characters made their first appearance in a feature film, Alfred Hitchcock delivered the first great journey into the mind of a psychopath. Norman Bates was a charming gentleman, who despite being under his mother's cruel domination still managed to be in charge of the Bates Motel, and he actually became a really likeable guy. However, it wasn't until the very end of the film when not only we found out who the killer really is, but also the true nature behind him. The reason why he is number one on this list it's because of the influence he had in the genre. A truly scary character that was handled greatly (Alfred Hitchcock did a great work with this film) who, thanks to an incredible actor that managed to bring this psychopath to life, Norman Bates definitely is
the character when it comes to serial killers.
