10 Worst Adam Sandler Movies Ever
5. Pixels (2015)
Even Tyrion Lannister couldn't save this one. On paper, Pixels sounds like a fun idea; aliens invade Earth disguised as retro video game characters, challenging humanity to increasingly intense, life-or-death clashes for the fate of the planet. Humanity's only hope, Adam Sandler, teams up with President of the United States Kevin James, a scenery-chewing Peter Dinklage, and Razzie-nominated Josh Gad to save the world.
It's a dumb premise, but as Sandler movies go, it's at least pretty unique, offering lots of opportunities for winks, nods, and nostalgic references, as well as plenty of scope for big belly laughs and crazy situations. Sadly, none of that potential is ever realised, and the only good parts of Pixels are shamelessly taken from the French short film on which the movie was based.
The rest is typically mindless Sandler fare, with puerile jokes, casual misogyny, and a real lack of any charm or personality. It's almost impressive how Sandler and co managed to take a genuinely fun idea and sap all of the joy out of it from start to finish. Video game movies are known for their low quality and that trend continues with Pixels.
