10 Worst Betrayals In Horror Movie History

6. The Students, Teachers And Her Own Mother - Carrie (1979)

The Descent
United Artists

Poor Carrie White. Is there anyone in this film who doesn't betray her? Mother, friends, teachers, the lot. She is teased, bullied, humiliated and sold out by everyone she knows, which goes in some way to explain the film's finale; Carrie murders a lot of people.

Dominated by her religious maniac of a mother, bullied for being different, totally unaware of how her body works and oblivious to the immense psychic power she possesses, Carrie just wants a normal life.

When a classmate feels guilty over the "plug it up" locker room assault and sets her up with a prom date, Carrie has no idea of the bucket of pig's blood waiting to soak her as she unexpectedly takes her prom queen throne. She finally snaps and using her telekinetic abilities, locks the hall doors and sets about crushing, burning and generally slaying a lot of people.

The fact that fellow student Sue Snell is trying to make things better just adds to the betrayal in Carrie's eyes. Even the sympathetic teacher gets killed (she should've known how bad events had gotten), as she totally fails to protect Carrie from the evils of high school life.

Her mother fundamentally betrays Carrie too, raising her in ignorance and quasi-Christian repressive morality, to the extent that Carrie is unprepared for the most basic of adolescent experiences. The lesson here? Don't put up with bullies, learn how to control those destructive urges, especially if you have the power to flip cars with your mind.
