10 Worst Big Money Trilogies Of All Time

6. The Expendables

Total Box Office: $790,592,938 Though by no means a great film series, The Expendables still had all the necessary ingredients to appeal to a certain audience: an all-star cast of action film icons like Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger; a retro feel that pays homage to the older, testosterone filled action films of the €˜80s and €˜90s; and, most importantly, more explosions that you can shake a stick at. But sometimes a good recipe just doesn€™t come together quite right and instead of being a knowing wink towards the action film€™s heyday, The Expendables trilogy felt more like a basic rehashing of films we€™ve seen time and time before. By the time the third film was released last year, the formula had fallen well and truly flat with a poor box office performance and three of its stars (Arnie, Kelsey Grammer and Mel Gibson) nominated for the Golden Raspberry for Worst Supporting Actor (Grammer took the title). Unfortunately, the series is about to become a quadrilogy with a fourth instalment scheduled for release in 2017.
