10 Worst CGI Moments In DCEU History

8. Ares - Wonder Woman

When it released back in 2017, Wonder Woman was rightly on the receiving end of critical acclaim from just about everyone who watched it. This was easily the greatest movie in the DCEU to date, but it was certainly not perfect.

Like Black Panther in the MCU, in spite of the beautiful film that was made, it still found itself hamstrung by a needlessly over the top CGI-fest of a battle at the end. Wonder Woman was a grounded war film, until she came to battle Ares.

David Thewlis was a great casting for the villain, however for the final battle he was altered with way too much CGI to try and make him a more intimidating foe. Something worthy of the title of God of War, and a match for Diana herself. His powers however, already made him a formidable opponent, the transformation was just jarring and achieved nothing.

Thewlis’ acting chops were an asset to the movie for the most part, but seeing his face behind the helmet of a hulking brute just didn’t work. He was a much better character before any kind of CGI “enhancement” got involved.
