10 Worst CGI Moments In DCEU History
5. Joss Whedon's Steppenwolf - Justice League
One of the many, many changes made when Joss Whedon took over the helm of Justice League was to get rid of Darkseid. Instead Steppenwolf, who was originally to act as a secondary antagonist behind his nephew, became the main villain of the movie.
Naturally, this put more of a spotlight on him than ever before, and as he was a creation of pure CGI, without any motion capture to work from as a base, this wasn’t a good thing. The deficiencies in the graphics department were on full show with the character.
There was reportedly a redesign of Steppenwolf through production, which is potentially why he comes across as so sub-par in the theatrical release of the movie. He was bland, wooden, and relatively emotionless, leaving fans struggling to take him at all seriously as a threat.
Though still flawed, the Snyder Cut showed Steppenwolf as what he was intended to be. He was far more intimidating, and actually showed some expression on his face throughout the movie. He may not have been perfect, but he was at the very least interesting to look at rather than the phoned in version from four years prior.
