When Wakanda was properly introduced to the MCU in Black Panther, Ryan Coogler gave fans an amazing gem of a country, boasting a mix of quiet, humble agriculture and a booming city of technological advancements unseen anywhere else in the larger MCU franchise.

Part of the former was W’Kabi and his rhinos. They were bred by T’Challa’s former best friend as something of Wakanda's answer to warhorses, and were used to devastating effect in the Battle of Mount Bashenga before Okoye was able to bid them stop. However, the visual effects of the animals just weren’t up to scratch.

When they were in the background and not the focus of any one scene, this wasn’t too noticeable, but there were two significant close up shots of the creatures that showed the cracks in the movie’s CGI.

The first came as W’Kabi fed one, and the second when one licked Okoye’s face as she stopped it from trampling M’Baku. The animation of the rhinos in What If…? was almost better than what was put on the big screen in Black Panther.
