10 Worst Changes Peter Jackson Made To The Lord Of The Rings
2. Peter Jackson Cut Out Prince Imrahil
Peter Jackson omitted a number of characters from his adaptation. In most incidents this made sense; Bill Ferny's Tom Bombadil's and even Glorfindel's roles were either insignificant to the story, or so small that it would waste valuable screen time. But one character would have been brilliant to see.
One of the much loved scenes in the Return of the King was the lighting of the beacons of Gondor. It was the signal for Rohan to take up arms and ride to the help of Minas Tirith. In the books this call to arms wasn't extended to Rohan alone.
To the south of Minas Tirith lays the castle of Dol Amroth, ruled by Prince Imrahil. He was the uncle of Boromir and Faramir, but was said to be descended from elves. He answers the call, bringing a company of Swan Knights, the most elite warriors in all of Gondor. He has a pretty significant role in the books, rescuing Faramir in a desperate charge after the retreat from Osgiliath, and then leads the defence of the city along with Gandalf. He then goes on to assist Éomer after the Rohirim arrive for the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.
He's essentially one of the most badass characters in all the books.
