10 Worst Films Adapted From Black List Screenplays
6. True Memoirs Of An International Assassin
Boasting the rare but dubious honour of a 0% Rotten Tomatoes
rating, comedy True Memoirs of an International Assassin was without a doubt
one of the worst films of last year. Mind, it is a Netflix Original which
despite a few highlights like Beasts of No Nation and Tallulah has largely
punished movie watchers with stinkers like Adam Sandler’s last two films The
Ridiculous 6 and The Do-Over.
Kevin James of Paul Blart: Mall Cop fame stars as a mild-mannered account-turned-wannabe writer who unwittingly finds himself embroiled in a plot to assassinate a corrupt Venezuelan president when his fictional book is taken for fact.
Maybe screenwriter Jeff Morris, whose original script for True Memoirs featured on the Black List, can’t be held too responsible as its director Jeff Wadlow did make a few rewrites of his own. Wherever the blame lies, though, the result was a comedy about as funny as a heart attack.
