7. Arthur

Remakes are always a tricky thing to master, even more so when the original film in question was pretty well received first time around. Case in point: director Jason Winer’s 2011 remake of Arthur.

Based on a script by Peter Baynham, the man also responsible for the screenplay behind last year’s equally awful The Brothers Grimsby, it’s a remake of the beloved 1981 comedy starring the often grating Russell Brand in the titular role first made famous by Dudley Moore.

It might seem that playing a libertine character such as spoiled, alcoholic millionaire Arthur would come naturally to Brand and while he succeeded as lothario rock star Aldous Snow in both Forgetting Sarah Marshall and its spin-off sequel Get Him to the Greek, when Brand’s typically outlandish acting is front and centre it can get annoying quickly.

The late, great Dudley Moore must’ve been turning in his grave.
