10 Worst Horror Movie One-Liners

6. “HOW’D IT GET BURNED?!” - Edward Malus, The Wicker Man (2006)

The Happening Mark Wahlberg
Warner Bros.

Nicolas Cage is the reigning champion of overblown performances. Even in his more critically well-received work like Leaving Las Vegas or Raising Arizona, he can still be seen trying to restrain himself from bouncing off the walls. And when it comes to his...other films, he really lets loose.

While it can be tonally inconsistent with the movie or exhaustingly chaotic, it’s always entertaining to watch him go into full lunatic mode.

By the time the 2000’s came around, the Con Air actor was pumping out bad movies like they were going out of fashion, what with the release of such titles as National Treasure, Windtalkers, Ghost Rider and of course, the 2006 remake of The Wicker Man. While he wasn’t given much to work with in terms of material, Cage’s boisterous acting style just does not suit a movie of this nature.

The film turned out unintentionally funny, thanks in no small part to Nicolas Cage’s puzzling performance, which peaked in a scene where Cage’s character Edward finds a mysterious, burned doll and demands answers. “HOW’D IT GET BURNED!” he repeats in a display of baffling overacting that the scene did not require. While the line isn’t so bad on paper, it has become infamous for Cage’s tendency to go for exuberance where subtly was needed.
