10 Worst Horror Movie One-Liners

5. “It makes you kill yourself...” - Alma, The Happening

The Happening Mark Wahlberg
20th Century Fox

The Happening was released in the middle of a string of terrible M. Night Shyamalan movies that spanned from the mid 2000’s until the mid 2010’s. The list includes such cinematic disasters as The Last Airbender (2010) and 2006’s Lady in the Water.

The Happening is the holy grail of “so bad it’s good” horror, ranking up there with Troll 2 and Birdemic. It’s chock full of inconceivably bad performances and directorial choices. And a lot of shameless expositional dialogue crowbarred in for good measure.

At one point in the eco-horror travesty of a film, Zooey Deschanel’s character Alma comments on the mysterious toxin upon which the story focuses: “It makes you kill yourself. Just when you thought there couldn’t be any more evil that can be invented.”

Not only is it an unnecessary line to begin with, it’s also laughably bad writing and is delivered by a strangely lifeless Zooey Deschanel, whose acting choices are indecipherable from beginning to end.
