10 Worst Horror Movies Of 2019
3. Countdown
Most likely remember the app promoting this movie more than the movie itself. This is because Countdown is a forgettable PG-13 horror movie that borrows heavily from macabre heavy hitters but does not ever feel like anything more than a less-scary copy.
Countdown is about an app that predicts when you will die. As the countdown comes to an end there is nothing you can do to avoid the unseen hand of death. If you are thinking this sounds like a hybrid of The Ring and Final Destination, you are not far off. Remnants of those movies are sprinkled all throughout Countdown. The film just does not do anything better or even on par with its obvious inspirations.
Taking the cursed video tape from The Ring and turning it into an app leaves room for social commentary about our addiction to technology, but Countdown is not concerned with such matters. The concept of an inevitable death, similar to Final Destination, should provide the film with tense moments and opportunities for some unique kills, but Countdown is not creative enough to take advantage of this potential.
Countdown is a shameless cash grab only concerned with reaching the widest possible audience. It is the type of cookie-cutter, PG-13 horror movie that died out a few years ago for a reason.
