10 Worst Horror Movies Of 2023

2. Children Of The Corn

Was anyone, anywhere, asking for a new Children of the Corn adaptation? Especially one from filmmaker Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, Ultraviolet) and which spent the better part of three years languishing in post-production purgatory? Nah.

To the surprise of no-one, this is yet another no-effort Children of the Corn movie to join the pile of 11(!) films spawned from Stephen King's original short story.

Its biggest problem? It just can't decide if it's silly, unrepentant schlock or a genuine Horror Movie with something to say.

The attempt at social commentary here - riffing on police brutality, GMO crops, and yes, trauma - suggests that Wimmer's mostly swinging for elevated horror, yet the plentiful unintentional comedy on offer makes it tough to take that at face value.

Throw in a truly atrocious VFX monster at the end and this thing ultimately descends into outright farce. Lead actress Elena Kampouris certainly tries her hardest to keep the enterprise afloat, but there's just no damn saving it.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
