5. Popeye's Revenge
Popeye the Sailor Man entered public domain on January 1st 2025, leading to not one, not two, but three horror parodies revolving around the spinach-guzzling seafarer. Even though Popeye the Slayer Man and Shiver Me Timbers are terrible, the worst of the trio has to be Popeye's Revenge.
In this tacky slasher, a group of councillors prepare to build a summer camp, oblivious the area is being tormented by a deformed murderer who supposedly died as a boy 15 years earlier.
Popeye's Revenge isn't just terrible, but lazy (and not just because it copied Friday the 13th's premise.) There's little attempt to connect the story to the source material, to the point where it feels like the filmmakers were making a generic horror flick, but then threw Popeye into the mix when the character lost its copyright.
The fights and chase scenes are nearly incomprehensible due to the relentless cuts, poor lighting, and sound effects that are either too quiet or too loud. Also, it's impossible to take the anchor-wielding psychopath seriously, due to his cosplay costume and rubber arms.
Although the other Popeye slashers have a few decent kills, there's nothing salvageable about this dud.
