Halle Berry's Jinx was immediately given big shoes to fill, given the deliberate similarities between her initial emergence from the sea and that of Dr. No's Honey Rider (the first Bond girl). While Berry certainly brought star power to the role, her performance was panned by many as flat and one-dimensional. The character did admittedly address a common criticism aimed at the Bond franchise - the fact that female characters are inevitably portrayed as weak - but Jinx's strength seems to be her only asset. She verbally spars with 007, keeps up in the action sequences, but offers very little else. Rosamund Pike, on the other hand, is typically brilliant as the icy Miranda Frost.
