Blofeld was portrayed marvellously by both Donald Pleasence and Telly Savalas, transforming the once-shadowy head of SPECTRE into a terrifying supervillain and smooth-talking mastermind, respectively. Unfortunately, this good work was undone by Charles Gray in the preposterous Diamonds Are Forever - a film which will certainly appear more on this list. His Blofeld appears as a pompous Brit, appearing far less threatening than most of his supposed underlings from earlier films (such as Rosa Klebb and Emilio Largo). A good deal of menace was required to make Diamonds Are Forever anything other than an unintentional comedy, a quality Gray sadly couldn't provide.
