10 Worst Live-Action Superhero Fights In Cinema History
Save the day? These guys couldn't save their own fight scenes.
With the Marvel Cinematic Universe one of the most financially successful and critically acclaimed franchises of all time, it's safe to say that not only do superhero movies now get massive budgets, but they're picked over with a fine-toothed comb before and after release.
You'd think that this would mean they'd be flawless pieces of cinema, with just the right blend of drama, action and skin-tight bodysuits, but often, it just isn't true.
Sometimes the issue with these big battles is the over-use of CGI, spoiling the immersion of the movie as we watch two computerised monsters do battle. Think Hulk vs. Abomination in the early days of the MCU or, even worse, the climactic fight scene of 2018's Venom, where we watched a mass of wrestling tentacles for several minutes.
It's even worse when computers can't be blamed. Some of the worst fight scenes are those acted out by real humans - the very same ones trying to convince us of just how "super" they are.
10. Wolverine Vs. "Deadpool" - X-Men Origins: Wolverine
The X-Men franchise had been doing very well until the release of 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand (more on that later). After the massive disappointment that was X3, 20th Century Fox hoped to win fans back by giving them what they thought they wanted: a deeper delve into Wolverine's back story.
The result was 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and, to the film's credit, it started off reasonably well.
Ryan Reynolds seemed perfectly cast as Wade Wilson (also known as Deadpool, though not the one we know and love), all set for some wise-cracking that would hopefully be the comic relief to offset Wolverine's dour personality.
Then, just a short way into the film, we're told that Wilson has died off-screen. That's okay, though, because the Merc with a Mouth resurfaces, having been given extra powers that he'd never previously possessed and with his trademark mouth sewn shut.
The resulting fight between Deadpool and Wolverine is an odd one. It's not bad in the traditional sense, but fans were simply so outraged by the blatant disregard for the character that it was impossible to enjoy.
