10 Worst Marvel Movie Decisions
7. Wade Wilson In X-Men: Origins
It is widely agreed upon that the first iteration of Deadpool in X-Men Origins is one of the worst adaptations of a character in the Marvel Universe. The film's introduction of Wade Wilson seemed promising, with his wisecracking, crude and quippy personality all present and correct. However, it went swiftly downhill from there.
First of all, they didn’t use Deadpool's iconic costume. A suit crafted to cover his brutal physical appearance, inflicted upon him through the experimentation. By removing his mouth in his final form in the film, he went from the 'Merc with a mouth' to just a merc with no personality. And while this is a callback to previous scenes in the film with Logan commenting they 'finally figured out how to shut you up, huh?' it does take away possibly the most integral part of the character.
In comparison, they gave him a load of random powers which were completely disassociated with the character so much that by the end, he barely resembled Deadpool and may has well have been a fresh new character created just for the film.
While it is noted that directors like to put a different take on characters to make it their own, this felt like a step too far from the source material. Even though Deadpool 2 rectified this in a mid credits scene by shooting this abomination, it still leaves a bad taste in the mouths of comic book fans everywhere.
