10 Worst Marvel Superhero Movies Ever

Marvel didn't always knock it out of the park.

Ghost Rider
Columbia Pictures

Comic Book movies have been at the top of food chain in cinema for nearly two decades at this point. Being at the forefront of pop culture nowadays, comic book movies have reached a level of popularity that is almost unrivalled in the history of film.

The major reason for this popularity is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Starting off with the first Iron Man, the comic book movie was forever changed, with the revolutionary idea of moving the connected universes of comics to the silver screen causing more excitement and more quality than ever.

However, before the MCU, and even nowadays outside of it, Marvel movies were dire. These films took beloved Marvel heroes, and just absolutely embarrassed them. While things like Sam Raimi's Spider-Man and the first few X-Men movies were fun times, the vast majority of Marvel movies were just dreadful, so much so that casual audiences largely wrote off comic book movies altogether for years.

These movies are the worst of the worst, and will make you thankful that the MCU exists.

10. Howard the Duck

Ghost Rider
Universal Pictures

It is really, really strange to say, but Howard the Duck was the first Marvel movie to hit theatres in history. Not Spider-Man, not the X-Men, not the Avengers, Howard the freaking Duck.

Produced by Lucasfilm (!?!?!) everything about this movie feels like a fever dream. From the fact it was the first Marvel movie, the fact that the people behind Star Wars and Indiana Jones were making it, the fact that the main villain was played by the same guy that played the principal in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and of course the fact that it starred a wise-cracking duck that was hooking up with a human woman.

Shocking to no one, the movie wasn't good, and it was a flop both critically and commercially. Apparently, they had hopes for a sequel, until they saw how audiences were responding to the film. Which just goes to show you, you don't need to be smart in order to work in Hollywood.
