10 Worst MCU Films (So Far)
7. Ant-Man And The Wasp
The aforementioned Spider-Man: Far from Home was an overly lightweight follow-up to the powerful and hugely emotional Avengers: Endgame; weirdly enough, the same thing happened with Infinity War. That movie was also followed up by a safe, half-hearted sequel that fell even flatter than Far from Home did.
Considering how much fun the first Ant-Man was, this sequel was a real disappointment in every way. Sure, it's kind-of fun but that's pretty much it and this feels like all of the MCU's worst habits rolled into one film.
The flaws that plague this largely excellent franchise's weaker films are a lack of stakes, bad villains, terrible love stories and a generally safe, undemanding vibe.
In fairness, this sequel did a good job with its villains but other than that, it's completely weightless, Ant-Man and the Wasp have no chemistry whatsoever and the film, as a whole, feels pretty flat.
Regarding the title characters, although Paul Rudd is still a delight the film is let down by the Wasp (Evangeline Lily), who's a humourless bore (thanks to the script, not Lily's performance).
Also, like many of the worst MCU sequels, it doesn't justify its existence. It doesn't develop the characters or the cinematic universe and it seems to have just been made for money, so this film is very much a representation of the worst of the MCU.
