10 Worst MCU Films (So Far)
4. Black Widow
All those years of fans clamouring for a Black Widow solo movie... and this is what we got.
Look, a Black Widow solo movie was always a good idea but Marvel Studios left it far too late; the character was killed off two years before this film, after all. Therefore, this movie felt like a pointless exercise from the off but had it not been so mediocre, its existence could've felt more justified. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
Black Widow has some kinetic action, good direction from Cate Shortland and strong performances, particularly from Florence Pugh and David Harbour, but the film's weightless plot, crap villain (Ray Winstone, who delivers one of the worst Russian accents in recent memory), thoroughly mediocre script and total lack of purpose made it hard to get invested in it.
Perhaps most criminally of all, this doesn't give Black Widow herself a compelling story or a satisfying send-off; it fact, it comes dangerously close to making her boring.
It seems tragically apparent that this was just made for money, so it's pretty satisfying that this failed to break even at the box office.
