10 Worst Modern Comic Book Character Adaptations
8. Batman (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight And Dark Knight Rises)
You may find yourself asking how Nolan's Batman found his way onto this list, quite simply put Nolan's Batman trilogy was an amazing film trilogy yet it was a mediocre superhero film trilogy. Many aspects of the character that make him a 'super' hero are watered down and he finds himself as more of a high tech S.W.A.T officer with wings than the superhero we all know and love. Batman seems neutered in these films due to the dilution of the very characteristics which make him the superhero he is.
Batman is perhaps the most cunning tactician in all of DC Comics, so far ahead of his compatriots in the Justice League that he has a plan of action for if any (or all) of them go rogue, this is just not shown in the Nolan trilogy. Throughout the whole trilogy he is constantly being outwitted by his antagonists, he constantly reverts to the underdog position rather than being five steps ahead. He also displays a rather rash and impetuous behaviour which is very unlike The Dark Knight. Jumping headfirst into situations where the comic Batman would consider all options and take the least dangerous and most effective course of action.
The most glaring problem with Bale and Nolan's Batman however is the addiction to realism. Putting so much emphasis on the debilitating toll that being Batman will take on your body let's down the fun factor of the Batman franchise. Let him be the best a human can be without putting the idea out there that being Batman is a short lived endeavour.
Batman in the Nolan trilogy is a great movie character, he is not a great adaptation of the comic book character however.
