10 Worst Modern Comic Book Character Adaptations

7. Venom (Spiderman 3)

Bruce Wayne Batman
DC Entertainment

Venom is one of the most iconic non universal villains in all of comics, from his size, to intimidation factor and strength he is truly a high level threat when it comes to Spiderman's rogue gallery. Enter Topher Grace.

Skinny, anemic and whiny with absolutely no intimidating features other than a wide toothy grin, the movie Venom is but a shadow of his comic book self. Lacking the strength and independence to go up against Spiderman on his own he enlist the assistance of Sandman and despite the numbers advantage they still struggle throughout most of the third act climax.

While immature at times in the source material and even playful, the underlying theme is that Venom is a true threat to the earth of the Marvel Universe which is in no way portrayed here. Had the filmmakers taken a less Spiderman like approach to the final design of Venom and perhaps embellished his features, made him more of a threat then there would be some tension in the final act.
