2. To Advance Her Criminology Career - American Psycho 2
American Psycho 2 is a sequel that categorically shouldn't exist, and that's no clearer than when we learn the motive of young murderess Rachael Newman (Mila Kunis).
After killing Patrick Batman with an ice pick as a child (seriously), Rachael studies criminology at university under Professor Starkman (William Shatner), who offers a teaching position to the best of his students, as will basically guarantee them an FBI career in the future.
As such, Rachael decides to start killing off her biggest classmate rivals, clearing the path for her to gain entry into the Quantico FBI Academy.
It's a motive that's utterly impossible to take seriously, and more to the point, feels entirely divorced from Patrick Bateman's (Christian Bale) modus operandi in the original film.
That tracks, though, given that American Psycho 2 was originally a spec script called "The Girl Who Wouldn't Die" entirely unrelated to American Psycho, but was transformed into a tangential sequel during development.
