10 Worst Movie CGI Of 2019

3. Video Game Dogfights - Midway

On the subject of movies that look more like video games, no film this year was more pervasively guilty of that than Midway, a mostly terrible war epic with shiny, plastic battle scenes that could easily pass for old Medal of Honor or Call of Duty cutscenes.

That's not to say the film's recreation of the Battle of Midway isn't at least trashily enjoyable - it is a Roland Emmerich film, after all.

But between the unconvincing physics of the aerial dogfights, hilariously bad cockpit green screen, and generally blurry mess that the scenes devolve into, it's virtually impossible to take seriously.

Even when the humans are the focus on aircraft carriers and boats, it's painfully obvious they're shooting their scenes from the comfort of a soundstage, with the busy backgrounds keyed in during post-production.

Nobody's saying Emmerich needed to actually shoot the entire thing out on the ocean, but when you've got "only" $100 million to play with, maybe it's worth reining in the scale a tad, no?
