10 Worst Movie Characters Of 2020 (So Far)

8. Hal (Dan Stevens) - The Call Of The Wild

The Call of the Wild is certainly one of the stranger tentpole movies released this year, focused as it is on a gruff, bearded Harrison Ford hanging out with an unconvincing CGI dog.

But because that relationship apparently isn't enough to sustain a 100-minute family film, villainous prospector Hal (Dan Stevens) is eventually thrown into the mix.

Stevens, typically a terrific actor, decides to play Hal as a literal mustache-twirling baddie worthy of a Disney animation, which clashes harshly with the more measured tone of the rest of the movie.

As a result, Hal is a wacky, insultingly broad antagonist who knows nothing but greed and, of course, has no qualms about getting violent to further his cause.

Even so, the film's ridiculous climax, in which the aforementioned CGI dog drags Hal into a burning building and leaves him to die, does seem rather over-the-top.
