10 Worst Movie Characters Of 2020 (So Far)

7. Melanie Cole (Lucy Hale) - Fantasy Island

Blumhouse's horror-themed Fantasy Island reboot could've been a fun twist on a name property, but instead settled for being a spectacularly dumb, incoherent mess.

And this is exemplified no better than by the movie's protagonist, Melanie Cole (Lucy Hale), a disturbed young woman who visits the titular locale in order to exact revenge upon a bully.

After this and Truth or Dare, Lucy Hale in a Blumhouse movie is a very clear red flag, and though Hale's performance is itself totally wooden, Melanie as an apparently sympathetic protagonist comes off totally cold and unlikable.

But the icing on the cake arrives in the third act, when it's revealed that the events of the movie were all orchestrated by Melanie to get revenge on the people involved in the accidental death of her crush Nick (Evan Evagora).

That's right - this is all the fault of a deranged, overly attached young woman who plotted wildly misplaced revenge after the guy she went on one date with died in an accidental fire.

In 2020, the "bitch be crazy" trope feels played-out if not actively offensive, and so audiences were all-too-happy to see Mel eventually drowned by Nick's zombified remains.
