10 Worst Movie Characters Of 2021 (So Far)

While Mortal Kombat fans groaned at the idea of the new reboot introducing an original character to provide an "in" for non-fans, Cole Young (Lewis Tan) was ultimately an acceptable enough addition to the franchise.

But did he really need to come with the overwhelming dramatic baggage of a wife and daughter, too?

Early in the film we're introduced to his wife Allison (Laura Brent) and daughter Emily (Matilda Kimber), who to the surprise of not a single living soul watching the film end up kidnapped by Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) in the climax.

It feels overstepping to even call Allison and Emily characters, really. They're more akin to cardboard cutouts, props which serve to motivate the story without having any distinctive character traits of their own.

Unsurprisingly fans weren't much enthused as the film lazily begged them to care about these utter nothing characters, who just steered the attention away from the video game kombatants they were actually interested in seeing.
