Much like Godzilla vs. Kong, the new Tom and Jerry movie just couldn't keep the humans out of the way and let the embattled animated duo do their thing.

As charming an actress as Chloë Grace Moretz generally is, she's utterly helpless to make her human protagonist Kayla Forester anything but an irritating, unlikeable encumbrance on all the slapstick shenanigans.

Kayla immediately earmarks herself as trash by stealing another person's job resume while applying for work at the fancy New York hotel, the Royal Gate, a job which she ultimately gets.

Kayla spends most of the rest of the movie trying to do her job while occasionally crossing paths with Tom and Jerry, and despite her heinous initial act, ends up keeping her job at the end even when she's found out.

The only solace is that the woman whose resume she nicked also gets a job. Even so, the film clearly thinks Kayla's a lot more appealing than she actually is - she's the embodiment of every laughable stereotype boomers have about millennials.
