The original Conan The Barbarian was an oddity that revitalised the fantasy genre. The remake was a little generic and didn’t have too much going despite the solid cast. Jason Momoa played the titular character but was somewhat overshadowed by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s original performance some thirty years ago.

Despite plenty of gore and action, the film failed to live up to the epic proportions of the original. The film lacked original storytelling and was riddled with cliches that made a mighty quest feel generic. While none of the Conan films was met with acclaim, this film marked a new low for the franchise, so much so that it may never return.

There have been rumours of Schwarzenegger and Momoa picking up the sword once more for one final film, but the title appears to be in development hell.
