10 Worst Movie Trailers Of All Time

7. What Lies Beneath

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=QuYlo-EXrw4 Here's one of the worst instances of a film trailer going beyond building mere intrigue and actually giving away so much of the film that we feel that we don't even need to see it. The trailer for What Lies Beneath begins fine, dealing with the various preambles of getting to know the characters, establishing the setting and the first-act curiosities that get the plot moving, but by half-way, it becomes clear that they're going to play all their cards at once. Indeed, this trailer isn't content to just set a mood, it damn-near ruins that mood by telling us everything that happens, pretty much in chronological order as well, specifically the reveal that Harrison Ford's character had an affair, and that this is the cause of the strange events that are occurring in their house. Did we need to know this? When we're watching the film, it means that we're constantly waiting for this reveal, and we're bored sitting around for it to happen! The fast-moving montage near the end of the trailer gives away most of the money shots, except for the final scene, but it's pretty easy to guess where it's going from here. Terrible.
