5. Monster Brawl
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqGIAkd5tYw I saw Monster Brawl at the Leeds International Film Festival last November at a midnight screening, completely off my face and also rather tired, but in a room full of horror fans who should have been up for some kitschy laughs. The film was still met with complete derision despite playing for probably the most forgiving audience possible. Its premise centres around classic movie monsters such as Frankenstein and The Mummy fighting one another in a wrestling ring, while Jimmy Hart is a ring announcer, and Kevin Nash appears as a ring General of sorts. Unfortunately, the film's budget is so low that you'd be hard-pressed to barely recognise most of these monsters, with the cheap uniforms and altered names, presumably because the filmmakers couldn't afford to pay for the copyrights. The wrestling is stilted, neither athletic nor being faithful to the signature physicality of each character, and gets boring after just a few moments. Overall, the film just has a bare-bones quality that makes it unintentionally funny on occasion, but mostly just boring and miserable.
