6. A Paranormal Se7en Sequel
If there's any thriller I absolutely
don't want or need a sequel to, it is David Fincher's fantastically disturbing Se7en. At the end of the film, Gwyneth Paltrow has had her head cut off and Kevin Spacey has been shot in his by an enraged Brad Pitt, who has likely gone into a deep depression after finding said Gwyneth's head in a box. The only man truly left standing is Morgan Freeman, and New Line Cinema couldn't help but try to assemble a sequel in which Freeman's character now had psychic powers. This all stemmed from an original script that involved a clairvoyant helping the FBI solve crimes, and it was promptly rewritten with Freeman's character in the supernatural role. David Fincher, judicious as ever, smartly rejected the script after reading it, and swore off ever making a sequel. Curiously, though, the script for the film has wound up back in its original form (under the title Solace) and is being released with Anthony Hopkins next year.
