10 Worst Movies That Hollywood Almost Made

4. Total Recall 2

Like Se7en, there's just no way I want a sequel to Total Recall - that crappy Colin Farrell reboot recently was horrible enough. The first Total Recall made tons of money at the box office, yes, but it also ended on a perfect note that basically rejects the very notion of a sequel; Quaid vanquishes the bad guys, saves Mars, and is left to ponder to himself whether what remains is a false memory or reality. It's brilliantly poetic and surprisingly intelligent for a film starring Arnold Schwazenegger; to return to that question or worse still, ignore it, would completely undermine everything great about the ending. Surprisingly, it was Schwarzenegger of all people who didn't like the scripts, and so the project was indefinitely halted. It's a good thing Arnie had so much clout, as directors like Jan de Bont (Speed) and Jonathan Frakes (uh, Riker from Star Trek: The Next Generation) were keen to helm. Given how well he selects his projects (especially during that classic run from the late 80s to the early 90s), it appears that Arnie has better taste than one would reasonably expect.
