10 Worst Oscar Winning Actors Ever
8. Renée Zellweger
The Academy clearly fell head-over-heels for Renée Zellweger in the early 2000s, giving her three consecutive Oscar nominations from 2002 to 2004, before finally awarding her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work in 2003's Cold Mountain.
While Zellweger was arguably the most amusing part of the bloated, dreary historical drama, her cartoonish performance shouldn't have been a serious Oscar contender with such impressive competition as Holly Hunter (Thirteen), Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River), Patricia Clarkson (Piece of April) and Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Fog). Literally anyone else in the category would've made more sense.
But again, the crusty old Oscar voters really, really liked her, hence why they previously nominated her for her fun but hardly awards-worthy performances in Bridget Jones's Diary and Chicago.
Zellweger only acts occasionally these days, but there's nothing in her filmography that suggests she's anything more than a passable performer who somehow managed to charm her way to an Academy Award once. Totally baffling.
