10 Worst Performances In Awesome 2017 Movies
8. Benicio Del Toro – Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Now obviously, The Last Jedi was brilliant in so many ways, but if there’s one fair criticism we can lodge at Rian Johnson’s entry into Star Wars lore it’s that the movie was a tad overcrowded with pointless characters. Case in point: Benicio del Toro’s intergalactic hacker DJ.
To be fair, with such an underwritten character del Toro didn’t have a great deal to work with in the first place but it doesn’t even look like he’s even trying. At times it seems as if he’s trying to channel Billy Dee Williams but all we end up with is a poor man’s Lando Calrissian with a phoned-in performance that del Toro gives a stock character quirk – an annoyingly affected stutter – purely so his one-dimensional character can stand out in the crowded cast.
It’s a shame because there’s no doubt that del Toro is a very talented actor but his turn in The Last Jedi felt an awful lot like he may have taken on the role just for the money.
