4. Jim Preston

Passengers Chris Pratt Jennifer Lawrence
Sony Pictures Releasing

In Passengers, Jim Preston is one of the 5,000 colonists sleeping aboard a sleeper ship called the Avalon. The passengers and crew must remain in stasis, as it takes 120 years for the ship to get from Earth to the planet Homestead II, which is why it was a problem when Jim woke up after 30 years.

When he did, it was due to some damage the ship took, but only Preston was woken up, and he quickly found that he was the only person awake on the ship — for the next 90 years. He was doomed to live out his years alone, so it's understandable, yet still unforgivable, what he did next.

He found a woman in a pod and was immediately attracted to her, so he stalked her digital life hard. He learned everything he could about her, and he also learned how to make her pod open up, which he pretended was due to a malfunction.

While it's understandable why he might wake someone else up, his reasons were entirely selfish. By waking Aurora up from her stasis pod, he effectively sentenced her to die a long and slow death with her only company being the man who condemned her to that fate.
