10 Worst Superhero Movie Posters
3. Spider-Man: Homecoming
Sony really screwed the pooch on this one.
When Marvel and Sony made their historic deal to share the rights to everyone's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, it was agreed that Sony would still oversee distribution and marketing on any Spider-Man films. Thus, despite Spider-Man: Homecoming being a Marvel film, Sony were the ones making all of the marketing decisions.
This is how the film wound up with a second trailer that essentially spoiled the entire plot of the film, third act and all. Which also means Sony is responsible for inflicting this image upon society.
Whereas Marvel had grown very adept at stylizing their posters in the Star Wars-aesthetic over the years, seeing Sony step up to the plate and try it for the first time was like seeing Iron Man 2's poster all over again. In an attempt to fill up the ensemble, Sony reused Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Vulture twice each, both in and out of their suits. The lighting from the sunlight just under Spidey's chin is overexposed and offsets the rest of the image.
And if all of that wasn't enough, this poster holds the dubious honor of having the worst digital makeover of any on this list, with Robert Downey Jr.'s face looking so fake and off-putting it might as well have been created entirely with CGI.
