10 Worst Superhero Movies Of The 21st Century

1. Green Lantern (2011)

If you’ve never seen Green Lantern then I strongly suggest you keep it that way. With a budget of $200million, an exciting cast and an experienced director in Martin Campbell, Green Lantern seemed sure to succeed. But, audiences were left distraught and disenchanted by a weak script, slow paced narrative and vanilla villains, not to mention the woeful (almost laughable) CGI. In this film adaptation of the vintage comic book character, Ryan Reynolds plays Hal Jordan, a pilot who comes into possession of a mystical green ring, which introduces him to the intergalactic Green Lantern Corp.

The storyline hardly progresses beyond this initial concept, except for the introduction of our supervillain antagonist, Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard). This is easily one of the least convincing supervillain performances ever. His circumstances and motives are uninspiring. There is no depth or development to Hector, or for that matter any other character. Despite all these ridiculous issues, the biggest blunder is shared between the awful camera work, screenplay and the inexplicably poor visual effects.

From clunky computer animated fight scenes to generally fatigued and unnatural character motion, the visual effects and colouring of this film are better left unseen. This is easily the worst film every cast member has starred in. Considering the big names attached to this release such as Ryan Reynolds, Mark Strong and Peter Sarsgaard, it’s almost unbelievable to think such a strong cast could be involved in such a bad film.

All-in-all, there is surely no question that Green Lantern is the worst superhero of the 21st century and maybe a contender for the worst of all time.
