10 Worst Things About Being A Movie Fan In 2016

1. Trailers Still Spoil Everything

Trailers are such a huge Catch 22. Often they're the only way you can really tell whether or not you want to see a film. Sure, this isn't always the case for franchise films or work by a specific director, but the reality is that trailers are the quickest and most effective way to get a sense for a film and what it's about.

The problem is that so often trailers go too far. This notion has been parroted by film fans for several years now. You'd think that in 2016 studios might have attempted to shake up the formula, but trailers largely remain unchanged. Admittedly, there must be a reason for that - for many casual cinema goers, they don't care how much is given away in a trailer as long as it looks good. But when you've got situations like the trailer for Terminator: Genysis - which completely spoils the twist about John Connor - then there's clearly still a problem.

The problem persists in 2016. The second trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice was essentially a complete overview of the entire plot, including the "surprise" appearance of the final villain. And the second trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane completely rips away any of the first's gripping ambiguity.

Being a movie fan in 2016 means before you watch a trailer you can never be sure how much is going to be spoiled.
