8. You Have To Deal With All Your Old Favourites Being Remade
Not all remakes are terrible. The remake of True Grit is excellent. As is The Thing, which is a remake of The Thing From Another World (as opposed to 2011's The Thing, which is a remake of John Carpenter's 1982 The Thing). Sure, it gets a bit confusing, but you get my point. They aren't universally bad. But the assumption is absolutely founded on truth.
Why can't a good thing be left alone? Why not come up something brand new? Did we really need to see a remake of Ghostbusters? or Total Recall? Or RoboCop? Or Carrie? Or Ben-Hur? I could go on...
As of the end of 2016, remakes are planned for a host of other classic films, including Mary Poppins, Commando, Jumanji, IT, An American Werewolf In London, Honey I Shrunk The Kids, Police Academy, The Lion King...
I'm not suggesting these films will be bad, but after a while it just gets exhausting. That's the main problem - it's tiring seeing unique ideas being stomped on in favour of appealing to nostalgia.
Screw it, I actually will say it: most of them will be bad.
