10 Worst Things James Bond Has Ever Done
1. Joining The Taliban
Timothy Dalton's Bond was a swift, sharp departure from Roger Moore's romancer, and he delivered a darker take on the character that make a big impression across a criminally short run of just two films.
Dalton himself has oft been quoted as saying that he based his performance on Fleming's original character from the novels. Because who doesn't remember that bit when Fleming was like, '... and then Bond joined the Taliban.' Right?
The first of Dalton's dark and edgy twosome, The Living Daylights (1987), sees 007 fighting a truly ruthless, no holds barred, end of the Cold War KGB, taking him to Bratislava, Vienna and Afghanistan. In the latter, he is imprisoned and must swiftly engineer an escape with his latest bosom buddy, Kamran Shah - leader of the friendly neighbourhood Mujahideen.
This is the Mujahideen who, in the aftermath of the Afghan War and the toppling of the communist government, would go on to become the Taliban. And together with Her Majesty's most loyal servant, they blow up bridges, attack an air base and plant bombs on aeroplanes, all in the name of... freedom?
But the shenanigans don't end there, oh no!
The conclusion of the film sees Shah and his cohorts being brought into high society and introduced to the ex-head of the KGB by M himself.
What could possibly go wrong?
