10 Worst Things James Bond Has Ever Done
8. Short-Changing 006
In the truly spectacular opening sequence to GoldenEye, we see James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) paired up with another Double O - Alec Trevelyan/006 (Sean Bean) - for the first full sequence in the franchise's history.
The pair infiltrate a Soviet weapons facility in Arkhangelsk with all the style and witty repartee one would expect from two Double Os in their prime. All seems to be going smoothly - rooms breached, bombs planted, quips delivered - until the mission is struck a near-fatal blow: 006 is captured by the Russians.
Bearing in mind Trevelyan is meant to be Bond's bestest best bud, it might make sense at this point for 007 to come out swinging, slinging a few shots and securing the freedom of his colleague.
Instead, Bond's first move is to tap the bomb's timer down from five and a half to three minutes, dooming 006 to a fiery death.
Given Bond's reputation for going off-script and doing quite literally whatever it takes to save a companion in mortal danger - most often women he has just met - this seems a truly mercenary move.
Sure, 006 bites it anyway just seconds later (or so we are led to believe), but, as evidenced by the shock and pain on his face, Bond didn't know that when he was shorting the bomb timer to blow both the facility and his friend sky high...
