7. Using A Parade To Gas Gotham's Citizens - Batman
Joker's fatal Smylex returns, this time for a deadly parade. His prior antics cause Gotham to cancel its 200th anniversary celebration parade. Being the party loving guy he is, Joker decides to make up for it by arranging his own. Promising free money (a whopping $20 million) for all who attend, Joker loads his giant parade balloons up with the toxic, laughing compound and prepares to kill as many citizens as he can.
We get various shots of hapless folks succumbing to the airborne toxin, agonisingly laughing themselves to death as their faces contort into unnatural smiles. It's all rather horrifying until Batman swoops in and uses his trusty Batwing to clear the skies. Never one for handling a setback well, Joker shoots his most loyal goon in a brief fit of rage.
It seems counterproductive to murder one's allies yet Joker doesn't care. All that matters for him is the violence and carnage he can inflict. A testament to his madness, this attack on Gotham is amongst the grandest ever committed to film with only Heath Ledger's Joker rivalling him for city wide destruction.
In Sam Hamm's screenplay, the money was revealed to be fake with Joker's face on it. This would've upped the evil ante that much more, making the purple suits enthusiast both a liar and a killer.
