10 Worst Ways Marvel Studios Wasted Great Actors

9. Richard Armitage Is Immediately Killed Off (Captain America: The First Avenger)

A few actors have had breakouts after performing bit parts in Marvel films, but none moreso than Richard Armitage. His performance as Thorin Oakenshield was one of the few redeeming features of The Hobbit trilogy and anyone who watches Hannibal will tell you how hypnotic he was as the Tooth Fairy. Ironically, he€™s now the exact type of actor they pursue for their lead villains, and that could have been the case had they not already used him as minor antagonist Heinz Kruger. In case you can€™t even remember Armitage appearing, he€™s the HYDRA spy who sabotages the super-soldier experiment and kills Dr. Erskine. It was a great sequence, but anyone could have done it, and we now know how much more Armitage could have offered. Obviously, Marvel didn€™t necessarily know he was going to break out at the time, so while they may be absolved of blame, it still doesn€™t mean he wasn€™t wasted in such a meaningless role.
