10 Worst Ways Marvel Studios Wasted Great Actors

7. Edward Norton Is The Hulk In The Wrong Movie (The Incredible Hulk)

Edward Norton is an undeniably fantastic actor, but he also has a reputation as being very hard to work with. This was the case on The Incredible Hulk, where disputes between him and Marvel over whether he should receive a screenwriting credit for his rewriting efforts allegedly led to him not being asked back for The Avengers. Marvel should have welcomed his help - the film was poor, to say the least. Okay, so it worked out well for Norton, as he got to star in a range of exceptional films, like Birdman and Moonrise Kingdom, but imagine what Norton could have done in the more complex, better written role that Banner would become by the time The Avengers rolled around. That more textured role would have suited Norton far better - hence Mark Ruffalo's excellent understated performance - and he wouldn't have had to act opposite the scene-chewing Tim Roth. It's a hell of a shame.
