5. Ben Kingsleys Mandarin Is Just An Act (Iron Man 3)
The Mandarin is traditionally depicted as an older Chinese man with magical rings, so when the decidedly not-Chinese Ben Kingsley was cast, fans were a little skeptical. Then it was announced that his rings would simply be decorative and fans got a little more worried. That was until the trailers started to roll out and this new take on the character seems to resonate with people. His bold fashion, gravelly voice and fearsome presence was all of a sudden something to be excited about, and for the first half of Iron Man 3 he was everything fans had hoped for. And then, you know what happened next. The Trevor Slattery twist has been divisive to say the least. While fans of the comics mostly objected to the way the character was changed, they were really hurt because Kingsley had been so good until the twist. If The Mandarin had truly been who he said he was, without the twist, he likely would have gone down as one of Marvels best villains. Through no fault of his own, Kingsleys astounding performance just didnt amount to enough and that is unquestionably a waste.
