10 WTF Moments That Made You Give Up On A Movie
8. The Irishman - The Fight With The Shopkeeper
It goes without saying that Martin Scorsese is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and The Irishman continues his run of form.
Notoriously, the controversial decision was made to use CGI to de-age his veteran cast by several decades, rather than casting younger actors. At best this leaves us with slightly jarring scenes in which actors don’t quite match with the rest of the scene, but at worst it throws a scene so awful you have to wonder how it made it past the cutting room floor.
In one such moment, Robert De Niro’s Frank Sheeran attacks a local store owner for harassing his daughter, but rather than use a younger stand in they inexplicably chose to de-age the real De Niro. But you can't deage bodily movements.
What we're left with is an awkward scene in which a clearly aged man struggles to move like a young one, and we are expected to believe this is De Niro in his Raging Bull days. Scorsese should be applauded for trying new techniques in his film making, but perhaps CGI heavy movies is something he should avoid in the future.
